EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO RUN BROKENLINKS.AI ๐งญ
Welcome ๐. This is the operating manual for BrokenLinks.ai.
The product does two things and only two things:
- ๐ Grade your content. It crawls your site and scores every page on five dimensions: Authority Signals, Citable Substance, Depth, Distinctiveness, and Durability, plus an Overall content score.
- ๐ฏ Surface broken-link opportunities. For each scored page, it finds third-party pages that contain a broken outbound link your page could plausibly replace as a citation.
How matching works in plain English: we read each of your pages and figure out what it’s really about: the topic, the angle, the kind of facts and ideas it covers. We do the same for every broken link in our index, using the anchor text, the sentence around the link, and the source page’s title and meta description. Then for each of your pages, we look at the broken links that talk about the same thing, score how good a fit each one is, and only show you the candidates that pass the bar.
Your ๐ / ๐ ratings on each opportunity are how the system gets smarter for you. Every rating teaches the matcher what counts as a good fit for your site. Thumbs-up reinforces matches that look like that one; thumbs-down (especially with a reason) suppresses matches that look like that one. The more you rate, the better the shortlist gets at predicting what your team would have approved anyway. Skip rating, and the system has nothing to learn from.
What you do with the surfaced opportunities is up to you. We do not run outreach, write pitches, or send messages on your behalf. The export is yours; the next move is yours.
The steps below cover the full product surface in the order you’ll meet it. Pick up wherever you are.
- STEP 1 ๐ Start your first audit Drop in your domain and kick off the crawl that grades every page on your site for link-worthiness and finds broken links your content can replace.
- STEP 2 ๐ Reading your Content Analysis Every page on your site, scored on Authority Signals, Citable Substance, Depth, Distinctiveness, and Durability, plus an Overall link-worthiness score.
- STEP 3 ๐ฏ The Opportunities table How the Opportunities table works. Each row is a third-party page with a broken outbound link your page can replace as a citation, ranked by fit score.
- STEP 4 ๐ Filtering and sorting opportunities Narrow a long list down to the rows actually worth your time, using score, BDR, rating, error type, status, and free-text search.
- STEP 5 ๐๐ Rating matches Thumbs up confirms a good fit, thumbs down trains the matcher to stop showing the wrong thing. Rating is the biggest lever you have over recommendation quality.
- STEP 6 ๐ฌ Telling us why something isn't a fit When you thumbs-down a row, the reason you pick teaches the matcher what to avoid. The seven thumbs-down reasons and how each shapes future opportunities.
- STEP 7 ๐ฅ Exporting opportunities Download the opportunities you've confirmed (or everything matching your filter) as a CSV with URLs, anchor text, surrounding sentence, and error type.
- STEP 8 ๐๏ธ The Broken Link Database Search every broken link our crawler has indexed across the public web. Filter by source domain or destination domain to scout publishers and audit dead URLs.
- STEP 9 ๐ณ Your subscription See your current plan, monthly opportunity allowance, renewal date, and manage payment, plan changes, and invoices through the secure billing portal.
- STEP 10 โ๏ธ Account settings Update your profile name and email, manage your passwordless sign-in inbox, and (carefully) close your account along with its sites, pages, and ratings.
- STEP 11 ๐๏ธ Our data Where the broken-link database comes from, how it's gathered, how often it's refreshed, and what we do (and don't) collect.
